§47-2-302.


§47-2-302.
   
   A. Any person eligible to become a member of the System shall file a
   written application therefor with the Board, and shall continue
   thereafter as a member of the System so long as the employee meets
   membership requirements. For the purposes of computing contributions,
   employee contributions, pensions and annuities, the Assistant
   Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety shall be classified
   and categorized as a member of the System.
   
   B. The Board may, after a hearing held for such purpose, allow
   employees of the Department of Public Safety who were hired by the
   Department after September 30, 1939, and prior to July 1, 1981, to pay
   to the System an amount equal to what the employee would have paid to
   the System if the employee had been enrolled in the System from the
   time of first employment. The Board shall determine any interest due
   on the amount paid pursuant to this subsection. Any payments allowed
   pursuant to this subsection shall be made prior to January 1, 1982.
